Personnally, I was twelve when Yoko Tsuno was presented to me at school, in a french lesson. I didn't really liked it at the moment because it was only an extract. But this very summer, I went for a trip with my parents in Belgium and we went to the "Musée de la bande dessinée". Yoko Tsuno was not in the exhibition, but a few albums were available in the little library of the museum. While my parents continued the visit (I guess I was a bit tired), I found "La frontière de la vie" and I read it all. I even started to read an other album, but my parents finally came back to fetch me and I had to stop reading it. But, it eas to late, I was addicted to Yoko Tsuno! :p

Me it'm my husband that introduced me to Yoko. He owns all of them. I like particulary the # 20 "l'astrologue de Bruges". I love the scenary in this album and the love story between Mieke and Paul. Mieke could be less shy.But i imagine that she's very distant because she comes from the past.
I would like to get it in english!

Hi to all. I'm from Spain and can read a bit French but I can't write it neither speak it so it's great to have the forum in English (I think I can write in English better I do it in French)! Sadly, there's not many "Tsuno fans" in Spain because it was translated into Spanish many years ago (and not all the albums) so I can't even suggest a Spanish forum section. 
I'm trying to make a little web site about Yoko with a bit of information on Spanish translations.
I think I first saw Yoko Tsuno when I was ten in "Spirou Ardilla" with other BD characters (Boule et Bill "Bill y Bolita", Khena & the Scramoustache "Quena y el Sacramús", Spirou, Gastón, etc. etc.) I prefered more humoristic comics when I was a little boy so I didn't like Yoko so much. But a few years ago I started to read some old albums published in Spanish in the 80's and I bought the "Integral" in French. I met Yoko again and this time I liked her stories a lot! It's hard to me to read Yoko with a French/Spanish dictionary but I'm enjoying it very much.

Que tal ? Soy Frances pero mi esposa es de Argentina, por eso hablo español (con muchas faltas y un castillano de America del sur, un poco diferente del de España !!! Me gustaria hacer descubrir Yoko Tsuno a mi familia politica, alla en Argentina, pero es imposible encontrar los libros en español. No se pueden comprar, ahora, creo, en España, si ? Si tienes una posibilidad, dime.

If I remender, I discovered her at 11... My father is addict about comics and I read a lot of this books. Yoko has fascinated me and I read 20 albums in one week-end under the sun 
I think an international section is a very good idea and I hope many poeple can joign us thanks to it.

Thanks for welcome! It's nice finding Yoko's readers who can speak / write Spanish, from Spain or not. I think "Yoko Tsuno" is not a very famous BD in Spain. The last album published in Spanish was "La Jonque céleste" (2004) but the previous one was "Le Canon de Kra" (1990)! 
I'm not sure if this section is intended to talk about English translations of Yoko or to talk about Yoko in English. 
Anyway, in Spanish a few albums were published (1,2,3,4,5,9,11,12,15,22) in two languages: Castillian and Catalan and they must be bought second hand.
Even though, I haven't all of them so I'm buying the Integral in French. If I found some albums not so expensive, I may buy it for you.

Hi! My spanish is very poor, but it's good to see this topic in english.
I do not remember exactly when i discovered Yoko, but it was quite a long time ago. In fact, i believe i read it when i was still a very young boy, as soon as i was able to read something, at about 6 years of age. I used to love so much going to the library ; my mum went on shopping and in the mean time my "baby seater" was the library! I was facinated with books in general, and Yoko in particular. I remember that i had in one hand "Jean qui rit, Jean qui pleurt" and in the other hand "Yoko"!... Since, i have tried to determine which album i read first but i'm not sure after all. Anyway, what i remember is THE ALBUM which made me fall in love with my favourite Japanese girl : "la frontière de la vie". I have never forgotten what i felt reading it, and i've still a strange and mixed emotion when i take it. The atmosphere of this story is for me a part of my own childhood. I cannot explain exactly my feelings, but surely you'll understand what i mean if you have personaly felt something like that... Anyway, sorry i'm losing myself somewhere in my past, but that's definetly why i have chosen to write : "grandir avec Yoko", cos i really feel i grew up with her and that she belongs for a part to my own past life... Don't know if you will understand it but it's good to talk about it, it's like feeling again a "caresse" like they say in french. Thank you Mr Lelou^p for that!

We will have, eventually, an english version of this web site (we are working on it). That is why we have an english section in the forum and I think it should remain in english, but to create a topic more "international" could be a good idea. Feel free to create it Frac.

I am from the Netherlands and a big admirer of Roger Leloup's work : Yoko Tsuno.
My first encounter with the comics of Yoko Tsuno (in Dutch) was when I travelled with my parents on holiday. To keep us 'quiet' they let us take 2 comics with us in the car. My choice at that time was Les Titans (number eight) which I still love because it was my introduction back in 1978 to Yoko Tsuno. I think it is a great moving story with very beautiful drawings.
Since then I have purchased and followed all albums of Yoko. Mostly in Dutch but I also have albums in German, French, Danish and English. I want to collect some Spanish as well or other languages, as for example Finnish.
Thank you for creating an English forum on this site. I think this is a very nice Yoko Tsuno site and have been looking at it already for many years, although my French is not good. Therefore I welcome an English version of this site.
Finally: I don't know if Roger Leloup also looks at this site / forum but thank you for creating something such beautiful as your albums of Yoko Tsuno. The drawings are all paintings to me in its'own way !

I discovered Yoko while I was 14 years old to the school. And since my passion for this heroine made that to increase!

When I discovered first an album of Yoko Tsuno, I was something like 11 years old, it was in France, in a supermarket, while my parents were buying foods and so on, I stayed at the comics place, reading as many as possible and I read half of Vulcan's forge and Message for eternity (I'm not sure about the english title) and at the end, my parents allowed me to buy the 3 suns of Vina (a surprise, they did not like comics, I still don't know why this day it was possible).
At that time, these comics were new but it was written on the back cover : next available "On the border of life"... So it was far, far away in the past !!! 
In one minute I was fond of Yoko Tsuno but the reasons were the drawing and because they were SciFi comics and this was my favourite theme.
After a long time (15-20 years) one day I bought another one, The spiral of the time, because it was a special price (may be 1.5 €)... this was a good commercial idea from Dupuis because a few weeks later, the virus was awoken and I bought the other... 18 titles at the same time !

I discovered Yoko back in 1978 when we spent the evening at a friend's house near Antwerpen. Us kids were bored so one of the older member of the family took us to his room where he had a large collection of comics. I found Yoko and read every copy before we went back home later in the evening! The next day my mother took me to our local comic shop and there I bought my first, which I still have. I was about 9 years old.
I found Roger Leloup's style of illustration stunning, and nothing really compared to it before or since.
In the end we moved to England, my Yoko books were packed away and forgotten till recently, when another house move brought them out once more. My son has now also fallen in love with Yoko and I now buy new and replacement copies for him to read in Dutch and English whenever I visit Belgium. I am trying to get Album 24 in Dutch but can't find it anywhere for sale 
In the UK the comic tradition is different to France and Belgium, and American style 'dark' comics or Manga are prefered (A good example of a famous comic here is 'Alice in Sunderland' - even my university has it in its library). However, I am trying to get a large comic shop in Nottingham to stock Yoko, and they have been interested so its a start.
